How to get started with HYGGE this Fall

Now that Fall is swiftly approaching, it is the perfect time to bring some Hygge into your home. Let’s start by explaining what it means.

Hygge (pronounced "hoo-gah") is a Danish concept that encapsulates the art of coziness and contentment. It's about creating a warm and inviting atmosphere, both in your physical surroundings and within yourself. Hygge celebrates the simple pleasures of life, like curling up with a good book by the fireplace, sharing laughter with friends over a cup of hot cocoa, or savouring a homemade meal in the soft glow of candlelight.

In essence, hygge is more than just a word; it's a state of mind. It's about finding joy in the ordinary, cherishing moments of comfort and togetherness, and embracing a slower, more mindful way of living. Whether you're nestled in a blanket on a rainy day or enjoying a peaceful shower with your ETHOSA Body Wash, hygge reminds us to appreciate life's gentle, soothing moments that fill our hearts with warmth and happiness.

To get a wider understanding of what Hygge means to different people, we've asked our Founder and 3 other self-care brands’ founders what it is to them:

Gaëlle from ETHOSA

“Hygge to me is lighting a candle, opening a bottle of red wine and enjoying a glass in front of my fireplace, after a busy day at work.” Gaëlle

Claire from BEAR BEAUTY BOTANICALS

Hygge for me is going on a long dog walk in the countryside and coming home to a warm cosy house, getting in a hot bubble bath and watching a nostalgic film with my loved ones. Claire

Anandita from MINDFUL AYURVEDA

For me, hygge is all about slowing down and being in the moment. It can be as simple as taking a few minutes to fully engage the senses by lighting a candle, using essential oils or perhaps enjoying a cup of coffee or tea, being fully present. Or it can be elaborate self-care rituals such as gratitude journalling, practising yoga/ breathwork/meditation, and skincare. Hygge can be whatever you want it to be as long as it brings you a sense of inner peace and calm, and allows you to disconnect and just “be.” Anandita

Rachel from MOON MEADOW CANDLES

Hygge for me is being cosy inside my home with my books, blankets and candles while looking at the rain falling outside. Rachel
